ABACUS: SMALL ENOUGH TO JAIL tells the incredible story of the Chinese immigrant Sung family, owners of Abacus Federal Savings of Chinatown, New York. Accused of mortgage fraud by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., Abacus was the only U.S. bank to face criminal charges in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. The indictment and subsequent trial forced the Sung family to defend themselves - and their bank's legacy in the Chinatown community - over the course of a five-year legal battle. The film received a nomination for the 2018 Academy Award - Best Documentary Feature, among numerous other awards and nominations.
Hear from the Sung sisters - Jill Sung, President and CEO of Abacus Bank, Vera Sung, member of the Board of Directors of Abacus Bank, and Chanterelle Sung '00, ironically a former Assistant District Attorney within the Manhattan District Attorney's Office that prosecuted the case, as well as Mark Mitten, the film producer. The panel will be moderated by Ti-Hua Chang, an award-winning investigative reporter.
