Spring Photo Walk at Duke Farm

Spring photowalk at Duke Farms (Sunday April 24, rain date: May 1) with Dave DeFreese '91.

Post-walk note from Dave:
"We had about 20 people show up for the photo walk. I made a little mistake in not taking any group photos. Otherwise, the group enjoyed the tour, we had perfect weather and for the people who had never been here before, I think they got a good overview of the Duke family history, the layout of the estate and some ideas for potential future visits. If there’s any interest in the future, I’ll gladly do it again as time allows."
10AM to noon or 12:30.
Please plan to arrive at 9:30 so that we can kick off from the Orientation Center on time at 10.
We end at the Great Falls when they start to flow at noon.

Bring a camera (cell phone, point and shoot or DSLR) and we’ll have a nice excursion.
Here is the link to the walk we did a couple of years ago:

Duke Farms was a working farm with a large portion of the grounds set aside for James Duke’s estate (which was ultimately never built).  When Doris Duke was alive, she built up a couple of greenhouses and a sculpture collection around the grounds.  What’s left today is a mix of ruins, working greenhouses, and semi-natural landscaping laid out by the Olmstead firm which also did the design for NYC’s Central Park and the Columbian World’s Fair in Chicago.  There are dozens of trails for walking and biking just a couple of miles away from the heavily congested area surrounding the Somerville Circle.
