Fears, or the past 2 PA3 has provided financial support for 1 to 2 summer interns at local non-profits through the PICS program. The Executive Director of PICs has asked us to spread the word to local alumni about their need for mentor/partners during the summer.
Dear Local Princeton Alumni,
PICS has seen a tremendous expansion this year and we will have 150+ interns in the field this summer (up from 115 last summer). As you can imagine, pairing alumni partners has become more involved and I am hoping some in PA3 would be interested in volunteering. We would greatly appreciate your support in finding alumni interested in interacting with current undergraduates to fill these roles. I need alumni partners for the following placed internships still:
1. The MDS Foundation in Yardville. www.mds-foundation.org
2. The Center for Supportive Schools in Trenton. www.supportiveschools.org
3. Princeton - Blairstown Center (2 interns placed). www.princetonblairstown.org
Below is what I tell those we ask to volunteer and I have attached our partner handbook:
An integral part of our program is providing each intern with an “alumni partner”, a Princeton alum who will reach out and connect with the student over the summer, help expose him or her to the Princeton alumni network generally and the networking opportunities that it offers, and field questions or issues if any arise over the summer. The role of the alumni partner is not job mentor, but rather life mentor: a friendly Princeton face for a student who is not from the area, who can answer some questions about the area, provide any work advice that might come up, spend time at a lunch or dinner, and become a first exposure to the Princeton networking experience. Some interns really enjoy the contact and like to make time to meet, while others are content to know someone is there that they can turn to if necessary. Many of these connections lead to long term friendships, and are a good way to connect with current Princeton undergrads.
I am writing to see if you would also be interested in becoming an alumni partner to a PICS intern this summer in New York.
I have attached our handbook for you to review as well as this link to our website, http://pics.princeton.edu
